What to know about solar energy

We’ve developed over 220 energy facilities with the trust of our home communities because we are committed to supporting the areas where we live, work and operate.

How Solar Energy Works

  1. 1 Sunlight hits the solar panels.
  2. 2 Direct current (DC) flows from the panels to an inverter that turns it into alternating current (AC).
  3. 3 Transformer increases voltage of electricity.
  4. 4 Electricity travels through transmission lines.
  5. 5 Transformer decreases voltage of electricity.
  6. 6 Electricity travels through collection lines.
  7. 7 Electricity is delivered to customers.

Solar in Kansas

Invenergy developed the first utility-scale solar project in Kansas. Pixley Solar Energy Center is an 189-megawatt generation facility that began operations in 2025. This project powers roughly 43,000 homes annually and generates tens of millions in Barber County through new taxes, landowner payments, and wages and benefits over the project's life.
